As the 2025-2026 is now underway, the Mountain Range Mustangs football team’s season began after an underperforming season. The Mustangs look to bounce back with many key returning pieces and new pieces and a new energy in the program.
Last season, the Mustangs had an underperforming season after going 2-8 and 1-4 in league and felt as if they “ Failed with what they had.” Says Jon E.(11th) who is coming off of an outstanding sophomore season leading the team in receiving yards per game within 5 games 11 catches 245 yards and 4 touchdowns. Injuries held him back early on leading to the 5 games played.
Even with the returning power, the Mustangs still lost key pieces to the team. Paul K.(Grad.) who led the team in tackles with 121 tackles and 86 solo tackles and on the offensive side of the ball with 111 carries 476 yards, 4 touchdowns and 4 catches for 47 yards. Brice S.(grad) who held a huge offensive role with 1 passing touchdown, 34 carries, 148 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns, and 26 catches and 330 receiving yards.
This year, the Mustangs return pieces such as QB Cameron W.(12th) who threw for 1228 yards and 7 touchdowns. Austin R (12th) who rushed for 227 yards, 100 receiving yards, 2 touchdowns, 57 total tackles, and 2 interceptions. Kaydin H.(12th) who had 305 receiving yards, and 3 touchdowns. Alberto Z.(12th) who had 80 tackles. Francisco M.(11th) who had 53 tackles. And Vinny D.(12th) who had 205 all purpose yards.
“ We're looking to make Mountain Range a winning culture and I feel like we can do that with the team we have this season.” says Cameron W.(12th) when asked what to expect from the Mustangs this season.” I want to get a banner up in the rafters. And our picture put up.” Cameron also stated.
“ I want to make the playoffs. With the culture built and the chemistry in the team, I think we could easily win our league.” says Jon E.(11th) “ I feel as if us seniors have changed the program to something it hasn't been in years with our leadership.” Says Alberto Z.(12th) who has been a captain of the team for 2 consecutive seasons. He looks forward to having another stellar season.
The Mustangs are 1-1 after a hard fought for win Vs. Thomas Jefferson 6-0. They stay on home turf looking to defend and keep the streak going on Friday 9/12 Vs. Mountain View. The boys look to keep rolling before league play.
