Mountain Range High School hosted the Colorado Treble Festival on Saturday March 18, 2026.
The point of this festival is to build community and encourage lifelong singing. “There are layers,” reports Christa Fredrickson, the artistic director and founder of the Colorado Treble Festival as well as an English Teacher at Mountain Range High School. “We want to create an opportunity to see that life long singing is possible”. Treble singers make up eighty to nighty percent of all choirs in the United States and nighty percent of the music is created for mixed choirs or just men choirs.
Fredrickson loves this festival with everything in her. She reports, “It was a fun and exciting day and it made me so happy to see so many more students participating!” The entire purpose of this festival is to give students an opportunity to sit side by side with professionals. She does not want students to just “quit” music after high school so she is giving them a chance to get connected with community members to be able to continue their passion. “At the beginning of the day nobody knew each other," states Fredrickson “My favorite part of directing this choir was seeing everyone come together and seeing everybody do their part and work their hardest to make it happen. It was just such a labor of love”
Fredrickson started the Colorado Treble festival because she noticed that many of her students would quit choir after high school and never sing again. She thought If she gave them a pathway to get involved with community groups then fewer students would quit choir after high school.
Alexander J, a Mountain Range High School Senior, sang Alto in the Colorado Treble Festival. Alexander states, “It was a surprise, I didn't expect to be involved with the singing in this festival but I was told to give it a try and I really enjoyed it.” He recommends people to join because it is a very welcoming group of people and everyone is quite easy to work with. “It is lots of fun,” Alexander exclaims, “and if you want to do something with music or if singing is your passion, then I highly recommend this.” Alexander’s Highlight from the day was going to the festival to help Ms. Fredrickson with the lighting. But instead he ended up singing in the festival which was a total shock to him. Alexander wants people to know that it was just a lot of fun.
Kiarah G, a Mountain Range High School senior who also sang Alto, has been a part of the festival for 2 years now. She reports, “it is always a cool experience. Getting the chance to sing along with others of all ages and harmonize as you come together to sing meaningful lyrics ""it is such a heartwarming opportunity.” Kiarah says that if you are really into singing then the festival gives you a great opportunity to expand your experiences. You gain great skills from participating. “getting the chance to meet new people and do something that I love.” was the highlight of Kiara's day at the festival. Kiarah wants people to know that if you have the thought of doing it then just do it. Even if you don't like it you don't have to do it again, but you might find that you really enjoy it.
All students from Adams 12 are welcome to join. Students who want to participate next year are encouraged to contact Christa Fredrickson at fre029292@adams12.org for more information.
