It’s finally that time again Mustangs! Another exciting year for Mountain Range students and staff is upon us. The MRHS editorial staff cannot wait to get The Range up and going for a new school year. We editors are keen to have an important job such as this one, looking forward to new experiences after a year prior of being new Journalism writers.

As the editorial staff, we get to be in charge of jobs like taking care of our website, supporting the Journalism students with their pieces of writing, and creating our own publications of topics consisting of sports, school news, fundraisers, student/staff profiles, and much more for you to read! Journalism is a great class to further your writing skills, obtain leadership positions, and to be in an environment where topics such as political, personal, or social ideas are encouraged. As we move further into the year, students will learn more about expressing their beliefs/ideas/thoughts through their writing in a journalistic manner.

We are hopeful to be supportive and beneficial editors to our Journalism class, proving that the leadership skills we’ve learned over the years to be true. Being part of the editorial team of the MRHS Newspaper means responsibility and the determination to make The Range as best as it can be, and even more than that. We are excited to leave our handprints as the 2026-2027 editors, ready to get this year started!

And with that, your very own 2026 - 2027 editorial staff:

All she knows how to do is talk, so she writes. Anabella pursues anything that makes her mind wander and stroll, whether that means playing the viola in her school orchestra, "shredding" on her guitar to her favorite 80s rock songs (Neil Young, Stevie Nicks, Joni Mitchell, The Beatles, of course), and reaching a peaceful state of mind at her piano. Anabella Vivas is an MRHS 11th-grade journalism student, as well as an editor for the MRHS newspaper. Vivas is inspired by the goings-on of the world because that means there is always something to be curious about. You'll usually find Anabella taking a two-hour afternoon stroll with her favorite book of the month, a nighttime run because the sound of her feet and breath bring her back to Earth, and days spent with friends and family, who are Earth. Anabella has always expressed herself through paper and pen. She can account for this through the countless diaries filled with the happenings of youthful drama, cheesy poems about the way a tree looks, and sometimes doodles when words might not be enough. Vivas grew up with the influence of artists such as Thom Yorke, Florence Welch, Tool, Beirut, Stephen King, Fleetwood Mac, Bikini Kill, Dave Matthews, Sylvia Plath, and countless others, all of whom could be blamed for her Spotify Wrapped giving her a listening age of 70. What Vivas believes is most important is being as present in time as possible. For her, this means keeping up with the horrors of our political, environmental, and social climate, as well as its beauty. She strives to be engrossed in whatever she can soak up, thriving through pure inspiration, stubbornness, and the determination to pursue the arts, obtain as much knowledge as possible, and sometimes still write cheesy poems about the way a tree looks.

Azamya Arellano is someone who looks like she doesn't talk a lot but when you get to know her she never stops talking and is unfiltered, sadly. Azamya is a 11th grade journalism editor at Mountain Range High school. She hopes to become better at communicating issues that she has with other people. Some of Azamya's favorite authors are Stephen King, Holly Jackson, Susan Kaysen, and Jeffery Eugenides. Outside of school she participates in volleyball for a club team and has a full time job. She enjoys baking, sewing and hanging out with friends.  Growing up Azamya loved watching movies, painting, reading fairy

tales and making bracelets, and she had a wild

imagination and would always dress up no matter what the occasion was, she still does, but she has better outfits now. When she was little she used to watch Mickey Mouse and thought that it was so cool how Daisy Duck was a journalist and was able to interview anyone and thought that it would be a cool job to have. If someone asked how Azamya’s personality is, her friends would describe her as someone who speaks their mind freely, is kind, creative, hardworking and passionate about her interests, and never sugarcoats things. Azamya is also someone who believes strongly in the term hard work pays off, and that things aren't going to be easy all the time. Good things never come easy and if they do they are never really great.
