With the seniors year coming to a close, many seniors have been looking forward to Senior Assassin. Senior Assassin is played among the students at the school with everyone competing for a prize. The way the game works is every week each team gets another team as their targets and they have to assassinate them by using water guns. There are certain times like from 6am-8pm where students can wear goggles or floaties and they would keep them safe. But after certain times those immunity items don't work any more. There are also days called “purge days” where students can never wear goggles or floaties and a lot of people can get out during these days. The ways teams can get out are if a team doesn't assassinate their assigned targets for the week or both partners get assassinated by water guns. Here at Mountain Range many seniors have their own opinions about the game and the things it takes to win.
Senior Vinny D feels very highly confident about the game, explaining “ Everyone plays it and it honestly just gets everyone involved and connects you to people you may not even know. It's super fun to play because it's not harmful at all and it's something we can all look back on and have a good laugh”.
“The prize is something I really want to win so I am going to try my best to get that,” an anonymous MRHS senior said.. “So the prize is a main motivator for many students and what high school students do you know that don't love a prize?”
Seniors at Mountain Range go through their days participating in the game week by week. “I think it's definitely a lot of looking over your shoulder and keeping your head on a swivel. I definitely think it's super super fun but sometimes it feels like a job with how hard it is to get to my target, ”another senior stated.
Many parents have been notified about this game and how they may see students late walking around neighborhoods and to know that nothing bad is happening. Parents have been warned because there have been situations where people call the cops or even think the water guns are real which causes problems. In the worst cases across the country, the sheriff’s office said “young adults have been shot and seriously injured as a consequence of Senior Assassin.
The game caught national attention from comments by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department here in Colorado., “These games generate emergency calls to law enforcement agencies every year, including here in Jefferson County,” the JeffCo Sheriff's office said in an article from kdvr.com. So even though there is fun to be had, it does raise some community concerns.
This national wide game has started to become a game that every senior looks forward to and it continues to grow. The main goal is for all the seniors to have fun and to stay safe at the same time.
