Preston Brunton is a Senior at Mountain Range High School whose name has been tossed around in the halls lately, mainly because he has just achieved a huge milestone in basketball, reaching 1000 points in his High School basketball career. Preston has been on the basketball team for 4 years and has been a dominant force on the team.. Preston's basketball journey is still young and barely getting started but this is a remarkable way to start his journey and end one at MRHS.
Preston has been a key player for the MRHS basketball team since his freshman year. But this year was special for Preston. He is now a record holder at MRHS for most points scored throughout 4 years, etching his name in Mustang history forever. Several things helped Preston achieve this goal from childhood AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) teams, to non-stop training since 8th grade. This was not an easy achievement for Preston but that’s what makes it so much more impressive.
Preston is a builder and always wants to achieve something no matter what it is. He shows this in his personal life; when asked about his life/hobbies outside of basketball Preston expressed, “I’m really into cars and stuff like that, I really like to build stuff, like legos, and puzzles just things like that…” Preston's hobbies outside of basketball and school show that he is creative and loves a challenge. Being creative is needed to be a successful basketball player especially in tight situations. Preston's dreams outside of school and basketball include owning a business and being able to buy his dream car, a Ford GT Mk II.
Reaching this milestone has given Preston lots of opportunities to continue his basketball journey at a higher level. Before Preston was a record holder he had offers from a few different schools, but after achieving 1000 points and putting his name on the map multiple different colleges have given him an opportunity to continue his basketball and education journey at their school. When asked about basketball plans after High School, Preston emphasized, “I do plan on playing basketball in college.” It's just a matter of time until we see Preston playing basketball at a higher level continuing to do great things.
Although Preston has achieved all of these remarkable accomplishments. It didn’t come easy; things like team issues, health problems, and personal issues all caused his high school career to be difficult and challenging. He pushed through all of the obstacles life threw at him and is able to continue his academic and athletic journey at a higher level. Preston claims “The best thing I learned from playing basketball all these years was always be yourself, there will always be team drama and haters but if you push through it you can get far.”
