The Mustangs track season is underway and many athletes are getting antsy. With Preseason workouts happening every week(Monday, Tuesday, Wednesdays)
Senior and team captain Vinny D is ready to take on this upcoming track season and is ready to be around his friends and be able to connect with others on the team. “I enjoy the relationships you build with others on the teams, the friendships and being around people from other schools all the time”. With the season coming up Vinny has been attending offseason workouts to keep his body well conditioned and ready for the season. Vinny competes in the 100 meter and has a PR of 12.1 seconds ,and also competes in the 4x1 and 4x2 relay.
Junior Jon E feels very confident going into track, “I enjoy track a lot as it helps with football and makes me get faster on the field because I am a receiver. I really feel that the results I'm putting on the track are really translating to the football field. It's really helping as I run in the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles helping me be more explosive as I have to get past obstacles like I do in football.” Jon E expects to improve his times in the 110 hurdles from running 15.88 to hopefully getting close to 15.00 and under. “ I really want to see myself getting way faster, I know I’m fast but I know I can be faster.”
Senior Alberto Z. is preparing for this track season and ready to finally be back participating after the offseason. "I enjoy being with my friends while also learning a new sport and obviously getting out of school early too. It's a pretty cool thing going to all the meets and meeting many different people.’ “I mean track does help with a lot like keeping my grades up and to stay on top of school, but it's more to just keep me busy so I have something to do. The thing I'm looking forward to the most is to definitely keep improving, making myself better at what I do while also making friends with new people from different schools and hoping to see them make it to state because that's ultimately the goal in the end for everyone. The only thing I wish I could do is the 100m because I do shot put and discus but I'm not fast enough. I wish I was fast and had the Jets and Speed for it.” Alberto PR in shotput is 38”.750” and in discus is 123” 2”
Senior Captain Delaney T is ready for this upcoming track season and reflects on why she enjoys track . “I am ready for my senior year track season, and I enjoy track because it's an individual sport, but you’re still supporting other people around you.” “ At first I did track because I thought it was going to be easy and be an easy letter and just for fun. Then I realized that it's something that I'm actually good at, because at first it was to help with volleyball but then it turned into my main sport.” Delaney PR in shotput is 27” 5.75” and in discus 93”4”
With the Mustangs exciting track season coming up there's so much to expect from so many leaders on the team ready to push everyone to their best.
