After the Mustangs finished the 2025-2026 season, there were many ups and downs for the team. But after making history for Mountain Range there's many things to look at from this season.
The Boys finished with a winning record of 6-4 and 3-2 in league play. This is the best record for the stangs since the 2013-2014 season. This was a really remarkable season and a statement season as Senior Alberto. Z says,” We wanted to put the Mountain Range on the map again and I think we've accomplished that this season.”
This senior class has dealt with many struggles including their sophomore year going 4-6 and last season going 2-8. This season was really a step in the right direction for the Mustangs overall.
Junior Jon E. who led the team in receiving yards and tied for touchdowns says,” Our team chemistry this season was unmatched, everyone was friends and that's what set us apart from previous teams here.”
The Mustangs opened with a rough game vs. #6. Arvada West lost 56-0 but ultimately bounced back vs. #23 Thomas Jefferson winning 6-0. And unfortunately losing to Centaurus 38-0, then rounding out Non-League play beating Prairie View for Homecoming 28-6.
They kicked off league play going 2-0 and beating the former league champs Overland 14-0 and Boulder 38-17. In what was possibly the biggest game in over a decade for Mountain Range the Mustangs went into half up 14-7 against the heavily favored Westminster Wolves but sadly losing and losing their senior night to Northglenn 14-10.
They ended their season on a high note vs Lakewood winning 43-6 and leaving a statement on their season and their league finishing 3rd overall but sadly missing the playoffs.
“ We could’ve been way better, we finished with a good season but I wish we did more with it because we had the talent to make the playoffs.” says Senior Austin R.
But as the season ended, Coach Todd Riccio announced his retirement to the team.
“ I was kind of shocked by it. I’ve never thought of a Mountain Range team without him being the coach.” said Junior Braden R.
The Mustangs Finished 27th in 5a and as mentioned earlier with the best record in over a decade. Even though the Mustangs wish it could’ve ended better, the season was still a success for them and a positive impact left by the senior class of 2026 and Coach Riccio.
