As March arrives, so does one of the most exciting events in American sports. The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, better known as March Madness. The 2026 tournament is officially underway, bringing together 68 college teams from across the country, all competing for a national championship and to cement themselves in history.
The tournament began on Tuesday and Wednesday with the “First Four” where teams battled for the final spots to make it into the official bracket. Then, the action turns to Thursday, when the First Round kicks off. Where the phrase “Survive and Advance” becomes truthful. With 32 games played in just two days (Thursday and Friday), fans are treated to nonstop basketball and the potential for exciting nail biters.
One of the best parts of March Madness is its upsets. Lower-seeded teams often upset powerhouse programs, creating “Cinderella stories” that capture national attention. Every year, fans fill out brackets trying to predict the winners, but the tournament never goes as expected as the chances of getting a perfect bracket are 1 to 9 QUINTILLION. Last Season a few of these teams were CSU and McNeese. McNeese was a huge fan favorite last season due to TIk Tok bringing them fame.
This year’s bracket features traditional powerhouses like Duke Blue Devils, Michigan Wolverines, and Houston Cougars, alongside underdog programs looking to make a name for themselves: Hofstra, Siena, Long Island University, Northern Iowa, California Baptist and more.
Beyond the games, March Madness has a huge cultural impact. Offices, schools, and friend groups participate in bracket challenges, turning the tournament into a nationwide event. Even casual fans get involved,” My family makes a bracket every year. Last year my mom made the best one in our family and she doesn’t know anything about college basketball.” Says Cooper M.(12th) when discussing his family's tradition.
With the mix of talent, drama, and unpredictability, March Madness continues to live up to its name. Whether you’re a die-hard basketball fan or just tuning in to have background noise, the 2026 tournament always gives unforgettable moments and a reminder of why it’s considered one of the greatest sporting events in the world.
