This Is Where We Die is a mystery novel focusing on a group of six friends who all experienced a traumatic event years ago visiting a large mansion with their graduating class to celebrate their freedom from high school. Its plot is rich with constant twists, thrill, and a consistent question throughout the whole novel: Who’s next?

In the small first chunk of the novel before the group goes to the island during their graduation, we are introduced to a unique cast of characters: Sadie, a rich girl who rents out the island for her class, Isla, an extremely smart and equally cunning girl, Will, a stereotypical popular jock boy, Anthony, a comedic boy who constantly jokes, Emily, a sweet yet quiet girl, and Charlie, a stoner addict who constantly uses various substances as a result of the past incident, as well as the graduating class. The class persuades Sadie to rent out a popular island destination rumored to be owned by various celebrities by influencers, and she agrees.

R.X. He creates consistent tension inside her novel when characters in the mansion begin dying. Evidence points to anyone, and the only way to truly determine who it was was to see who survived the weekend in the mansion. This book rewards the patient reader who lasts til the end with a satisfying closure-all plot points are addressed and closed, leaving the reader feeling fulfilled and flabbergasted at the ending.

A reader who enjoys a slow build tension, however, may not enjoy R.X. He’s novel. R.X. He’s novel is full of constant suspense that some readers might not enjoy if they like the tension building throughout the novel slowly and gradually. R.X. He’s novel has near immediate tension that stays high throughout the novel.

The characters are actually shown to be affected by their trauma from the incident as well, with Sadie requiring antidepressant pills to keep her sane and Charlie constantly being affected by various addictive substances. Every character is united by a similar sentiment as well, being that they don’t like being hungry due to the incident that happened years ago. The characters, whenever you see their individual perspectives, appear to be consistently worried if food is inside the mansion and are all relieved when they realize they have plenty.

The author's depiction of how the characters are affected is a privilege some books lack severely, with trauma being slapped on characters and forgotten about, only being remembered when it is convenient, creating shallow characters who are very face-value. R.X. He’s characters all have their own individual depth and motives, nobody in the novel should be taken at face value.

Overall, R.X. He’s novel is a thrilling read for those yearning for a good mystery and death. It has a shocking conclusion built up with twists and tension, with characters who you can never trust, as nobody is truly who they appear to be.
